About TestGuild Performance & Site Reliability Testing Podcast
Hey, its Joe and welcome to the pre-show for the new Test Guild Performance and Site reliability podcast.
I just wanted to give you a quick overview of what the show is all about as well as how I think it can help you.
For those that don't know, I also have a podcast called TestTalks, which I've recently changed to the TestGuild Automation Podcast. Where I've covered all things automation-related for the past five years.
In those years, I've covered performance testing topics but noticed that they were not as popular as the functional automation ones. I also got complaints from a few folks telling me they thought it was off-topic.
So to really target the right group (and make sure I deliver what listeners expect) I decided to create this new show; the TestGuild Performance podcast dedicated 100% to performance and site reliability testing.
I also have been hosting online conferences dedicated to automation testing called AutomationGuild and another just for performance testing called PerfGuild.
So I thought this show would be an excellent way for me to meet new experts in the performance fields and learn for myself what people are struggling with.
This will help me to create better performance testing events.
Since I'll have more performance experts, I can try to get as speakers, and I will know what topics are more popular based on episodes listen to numbers. But it ultimately will also serve as an excellent lead for the next PerfGuild conference that I hope will lead to more attendees.
Also, this will help me create more performance-related post on my blog at TestGuild.
But why a show dedicated just to performance testing?

Unfortunately, not many software engineering organizations are familiar with the needs of performance testing or even have the expertise to do it.
Even worse, like most other shift-left testing efforts, hardly anyone is attempting to add this activity early enough in his or her software development life cycle.
Lack of Performance Testing Training
One major roadblock that prevents teams from successfully executing performance testing is a lack of training and education.
Sometimes, just knowing where to start can be a challenge.
Is Performance Testing Needed?
I've heard from a few folks who've told me that performance testing is not needed because they can simply auto-scale their application at runtime.
But not all performance issues and can be solved by throwing more resources at it.
Sadly, many companies realize this too late—sometimes with dire consequences like lost revenue, lost customers, and lost confidence in their software.
I think you can do better.
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is a discipline that incorporates aspects of software engineering and applies them to infrastructure and operations problems. The main goals are to create scalable and highly reliable software systems. SRE is viewed by many (as cited in the Google SRE book) as a “specific implementation of DevOps
That's why I created the TestGuild Performance Podcast.
What can you expect?
You can expect a new show every Monday. That most of the time will be an interview-style similar to what I've been doing on TestTalks. Episodes will last around 30 minutes or less.
