Vugen 11.04 replay issues

Are you getting the error “LR has encountered a problem and needs to close” when trying to replay your script in VUGEN?

What really stinks about this behavior is not only does this error appear but it also causes VUGEN to hang– WTF!

The only way to recover is to open task manager and manually KILL the vugen process. There has got to be a better way – right?

Known issue with LoadRunner

Turns out this behavior is a known issue with LoadRunner Vugen 11.04. The problem seems to be the thumbnail's value being set to enabled in the registry. This simple setting is what is causes all this havoc.

To disable the thumbnails in your registry by doing the following:

  • Click on Start>Run
  • Type in regedit and enter

  • For 32-bit OS Navigate to:


    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Mercury Interactive/LoadRunner/Vugen/Thumbnails

    For 64-bit OS Navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Mercury Interactive/LoadRunner/Vugen/Thumbnails
  • Find the GenerateThumbs key and change the value to 0
  • Close the registry
  • Restart Vugen and re-run your script

Issue Resolved

You should now be able to replay the script without errors – Cool!
